The PolyU Hung Hom Bay Campus and the PolyU West Kowloon Campus each boasts three Language Laboratories equipped with workstations well-equipped to facilitate interactive language learning activities; furthermore, one of these laboratories on the West Kowloon Campus is fully sound-proof and installed with equipment specifically catered for conducting applied language-related activities such as phonetic analysis and oral interpretation practice.
The major software used, Mplus, which has been adopted by interpretation subjects at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), is specially designed for oral interpretation but has found uses in interactive activities for general English subjects as well. Every semester, close to 5,000 students of general English subjects each spend three tutorials engaging in learning activities at these Language Laboratories.
In addition, these Language Laboratories are also used for conducting the Diagnostic English Language Tracking Assessment (DELTA) – developed by the English Language Centre of PolyU – taken by all students of general English subjects.
