2021-10-27
The School of Professional Education and Executive Development (SPEED) and Hong Kong Community College (HKCC), the educational units of the PolyU-affiliated College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPCE), held their 19th Joint Graduation Ceremony on 23 and 24 October 2021 at the Jockey Club Auditorium of PolyU. PolyU SPEED and PolyU HKCC respectively sent forth over 1,100 bachelor’s degree graduates and over 3,790 sub-degree graduates.
PolyU HKCC Articulation Rate Reaches Record High of 90.7%
Dr Simon Leung, CPCE Associate Dean (Development) and PolyU HKCC Director, said, “According to the PolyU HKCC Graduate Survey 2021, out of a total of 3,791 graduates, 3,221 responded to the survey. Among them, 2,922 articulated to bachelor’s degree programmes, representing a record high articulation rate of 90.7%. With almost 100% teaching and learning activities being conducted online over the past year or so, graduates’ impressive performance is particularly commendable.”
From the first cohort of graduates in 2003 to the latest cohort in 2021, over 34,000 PolyU HKCC graduates have articulated to bachelor’s degree studies. This represents a 19-year average articulation rate of 83.5%. (Please refer to the Annex for an overview of the PolyU HKCC Graduate Survey 2021.)
PolyU SPEED Provides Quality Articulation Pathways for Sub-degree Graduates
Under the CPCE flexible “2+2” articulation pathway, PolyU HKCC students, with a conditional offer granted by PolyU SPEED, stand a greater chance of articulating to a 2-year honours degree programme of PolyU SPEED after graduation. In 2021, 376 graduates chose to pursue their degree studies via the CPCE “2+2” pathway.
Dr Jack Lo, PolyU SPEED Director, said, “The School endeavours to provide quality articulation degree programmes encompassing the areas of applied and media arts, applied sciences, business, engineering and surveying, hospitality and tourism management, humanities and social sciences, and marketing, etc. to facilitate the professional development of individuals.” Over the last two decades, including the latest cohort of more than 1,100 graduates, PolyU SPEED has helped more than 15,700 graduates earn a bachelor’s degree, laying a firm foundation for their lifelong learning and career development.
Dr Lo said 21 programmes of PolyU SPEED are accredited by 25 professional bodies from different sectors, including engineering, accounting, healthcare, surveying and property management, marketing, information technology, and data science. Apart from obtaining a degree awarded by PolyU, graduates who have fulfilled specified requirements can also obtain a recognised qualification from a professional body in their chosen field through submitting an application or sitting for an examination.
PolyU HKCC and PolyU SPEED are two complementary self-financed educational units operating under the auspices of CPCE, which was founded by PolyU in 2002. Currently, PolyU HKCC offers more than 30 two-year associate degree and higher diploma programmes spanning the domains of arts, science, social sciences, business and the specialised areas of health studies and design while PolyU SPEED provides 29 full-time and 8 part-time articulation honours degree programmes for sub-degree graduates.
