Summary - Research Seminar 1 (27 March 2026)
The IIDS Well-being Research Seminar 1: Research Gaps in Promoting Well-being in Hong Kong was successfully held on 27 March 2026 at the PolyU West Kowloon Campus. Bringing together 50 participants in a hybrid format, the event achieved its objective of promoting knowledge exchange and research collaboration on well-being issues among academics and professionals.
The event featured two insightful presentations by Professor LO Wing-hung, Carlos, from the School of Governance and Policy Science, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Mr. CHAU Yat-cheung, Lawrence, veteran town planner and past president of The Hong Kong Institute of Planners, respectively. In his presentation, Professor Lo explored the development, implementation, and theoretical basis of the sustainability indices compiled by him and his research team, and Mr. Chau’s presentation mostly revolved around the imminent problems faced by the residents of the Yau Mong district as well as the proposed remedies to make the Yau Mong district more sustainable and walkable.
Both the on-site and online participants engaged with the speakers and actively asked questions in the Q&A session. Professor Lo further expanded on the practical application of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainability indices in the private and public sector as well as the ideas on future development of the indices. Mr. Chau elaborated on his strategies for the next stage of his work and how his proposal reconciles with the government's redevelopment plan.
Overall, the research seminar delivered strong outcomes. Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the quality and organisation of the content. A vast majority of the attendees indicated their interest in participating in future events of the project. The project team extends its gratitude to all speakers, supporting partners and journals, and the participants for making the event a success. Plans are already underway to build upon this momentum for future seminars and the International Conference set to be held in July.
