The international conference Phonetics 2026 Hong Kong, held on 3 and 4 June 2026, brought together leading scholars and practitioners from around the world to explore the intersection of phonetics and AI in language education.
The programme featured distinguished keynote addresses: Prof. Carlos Gussenhoven on language prosody, Prof. Jette Hansen Edwards on speech intelligibility in multilingual contexts, and Prof. Patrick C. M. Wong on spoken language development. Presentations covered topics including intonation and prosody, second language phonetic acquisition, pronunciation training, and AI-driven speech analysis.
Chaired by Dr Wience Lai and under the leadership of General Chair Prof. Antonis Botinis, the event was co-hosted by PolyU CPCE’s Division of Languages and Communication and the International Linguistic Society, with contributions from organising committee members including Ms Katie Pirsoaga, Dr Edward Wen, Dr Hong Ying and Dr Franco Wong.
With participation from contributors across diverse linguistic and educational contexts worldwide, Phonetics 2026 Hong Kong fostered rich interdisciplinary exchange and strengthened international collaboration in speech science and language learning.
