Ashly Carel Vega Acuna, a student of PolyU HKCC’s Associate in Design (Moving Image and Interaction Design), was awarded Fourth Prize at the 48th Japanese Language Speech Contest, organised by The Japan Society of Hong Kong on 30 November 2025.

Fourteen finalists were selected from a large pool of applicants to compete in the final round, where each delivered a speech on a Japan-related topic followed by a Q&A session. Along with her main prize, Ashly also received the “Youngest Participant Award”, presented to the three youngest contestants in the competition.

Ashly’s speech, titled “Connecting with People”, shared her inspiring journey of learning Japanese and the meaningful encounters she has had with Japanese people. Her presentation highlighted how these connections have motivated her and deepened her appreciation for the Japanese language and culture.

Through multiple rounds of rigorous preparation coordinated by PolyU CPCE’s Division of Languages and Communication, Ashly demonstrated not only proficiency in Japanese and public speaking, but also her passion for Japanese studies.

Congratulations to Ashly on her remarkable achievement!
