Dr Brian Hung, Senior Lecturer in PolyU CPCE’s Division of Social Sciences, Humanities and Design, continues his exploration of cinema as a medium for social dialogue with “Let’s Have a Cup of Doodh Patti Chai”. This independent film, directed by Dr Hung and supported by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, will premiere at Broadway Cinematheque on 7 April 2026.

Blending humour with poignant social insight, the film follows a Hong Kong family as they relocate to Kam Tin, a multicultural community often described as a “Little United Nations”. Featuring a cast of actors with Indian, Nepali, and Nigerian heritage, the story delves into cultural misunderstandings, stereotypes and breaking down of racial barriers. Through the simple act of sharing tea, local characters in the film forge connections with their new neighbours from diverse, unfamiliar backgrounds, inspiring audiences to embrace empathy and inclusivity.

Deeply rooted in the creative industries, Dr Hung’s career spans photography, digital media design, and extensive work across films, commercials, music videos and multimedia projects—including contributions to Ang Lee’s “Lust, Caution”. His documentaries, shorts and features have been showcased at international film festivals. As a lecturer, Dr Hung consistently uses cinema as a lens to explore social issues, from the experiences of refugees to the lives of Africans in Hong Kong.

Building on this commitment to socially engaged storytelling, “Let's have a cup of Doodh Patti Chai” offers a fresh perspective on Hong Kong’s multiculturalism, inviting audiences to reflect on the deeper meaning of cultural diversity and social integration.
