Dr Val Chen Appointed to National Technical Committee on Language and Terminology Standardization

Dr Val Chen, Chair of the Asia-Pacific Association of Cognitive Intelligence and Associate Division Head of PolyU CPCE’s Division of Languages and Communication, was recently elected as a member of the National Technical Committee on Language and Terminology Standardization (TC62). This appointment provides an important opportunity for PolyU CPCE to participate in national language standardisation efforts and to strengthen the characteristic development of its disciplines.

TC62 is a professional technical organisation established by the National Standardization Administration. It is responsible for coordinating and advancing the normalisation and standardisation of spoken and written languages as well as professional terminology. The committee comprises leading domestic and international experts from fields including linguistics, translation studies, and information technology. Dr Chen will participate in national language policy research, the review and approval of terminology standards, and the coordination of international standards.

On 15 January 2026, Dr Chen attended TC62’s Annual Conference held in Guangzhou to review standard project applications submitted by Peking University, Nanjing University, Fudan University, and Inner Mongolia University through subcommittees like the Subcommittee on Lexicography (TC62/SC2) and the Subcommittee on Computer-Aided Terminology (TC62/SC3). These applications included Professional Competence Standards for International Chinese Language Teachers, Artificial Intelligence Corpus Terminology, Tibetan Information Processing Terminology, Systematic Classification of Clinical Traditional Chinese Medicine Terminology, and Basic Terminology for Age-friendly Adaptations.
