On 11 April  2026, around 20 teachers and students from PolyU SPEED’s BA (Hons) in Chinese Language and Culture programme participated in an educational excursion titled “Exploring Intangible Cultural Heritage: Herbal Tea Culture and Spring Herbal Identification through Hiking”. The event was co-organised by The Hong Kong Society of Chinese Medicines and Yan Oi Tong Mei Foo Neighborhood Activity Centre.

This initiative blended a lecture on herbal tea culture with an outdoor field study, transforming the classroom into nature itself. Under the warm spring sun, the students learned to identify a variety of wild medicinal herbs. Through this immersive experience, they gained deeper insight into Hong Kong’s herbal tea tradition and the broader heritage of Chinese herbal medicine.

PolyU SPEED has always placed strong emphasis on holistic education and cultural enrichment. This excursion not only broadened students’ horizons but also strengthened their appreciation of local intangible cultural heritage. The participants expressed strong enthusiasm for engaging in future cultural activities that integrate theory with practice, deepen their knowledge and foster a greater appreciation of traditional culture.
