PolyU CPCE and CLP Power Academy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the PolyU SPEED’s Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering programme (part-time) at the PolyU Hung Hom Bay Campus on 19 January 2024. The MoU was signed by Prof. Peter Yuen, Dean of PolyU CPCE, and Ir Chris Cheung, Vice Chancellor of CLP Power Academy.

Prof. Yuen, in his speech, said, “This MoU will expand our existing strategic partnership, which has thrived in the field of electrical engineering since 2018, into the realm of mechanical engineering. In doing so, we aim to cultivate more talented professionals in this critical discipline.”

At the signing ceremony, Ms Eileen Burnett-Kant, Chief Human Resources Officer, CLP Holdings Limited, said, “With the significant growth projected for Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area in the coming decades, numerous large-scale infrastructure development projects are planned to be built and operated, this ambitious undertaking calls for a greater number of skilled E&M professionals in society.” She expressed confidence that this PolyU SPEED degree programme would contribute to the development of promising mechanical engineers in the coming years for the engineering industry in Hong Kong as well as for CLP.

The purpose of this MoU is to strengthen the collaboration between PolyU CPCE and CLP Power Academy in the realm of power expertise training and development through the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering programme (part-time) commencing in the academic year 2024/25. Graduates of this programme, like all the other PolyU SPEED articulation honours degree programmes, will obtain their degrees awarded by PolyU, which is a world top 100 university.

Under this new collaboration, CLP Power Academy may arrange site visits for students, while PolyU CPCE may provide subject-based learning opportunities for CLP engineering staff.
Ir Kevin Lau, Senior Director, Generation, CLP Power also attended the ceremony and conveyed his support for the collaboration.
