2024-05-07

Congratulations to Mr Martin Wong, Lecturer of the Division of Social Sciences, Humanities and Design of PolyU CPCE, on receiving the iF Design Award in Germany under the category of “User Interface for Digital Media” with his painting software Pure ink. The iF Design Award is one of the most renowned awards in the field of design. The competition was intense: almost 11,000 entries were submitted from 72 countries for different categories.

Pure ink is a piece of painting freeware wholly developed from the concepts of Asian ink art with an intention to preserve and extend this traditional art form digitally.  The software is unique in the ways of simulating realistic water soluble style and ink diffusion effects in real time and brushwork in Asian ink painting. These are not commonly achieved by other graphical software in the market nowadays due to the cultural difference. Pure ink runs on desktops and laptops and not on tablets and mobile devices.
