On 18 April 2026, the PolyU West Kowloon Campus hosted the award ceremony for the Photography Competition under the “Educational Engagement Project on Coastal Defense Facilities of Ming and Qing Dynasties in Lantau Island”, organised by the Division of Social Sciences, Humanities and Design of PolyU CPCE with support from the Lantau Conservation Fund.

The competition invited participants to capture Lantau’s coastal defense relics through their lenses. From the Tung Chung Battery to the Battalion City and the surrounding landscapes, contestants offered striking perspectives that intertwined past and present, illuminating the cultural and historical importance of the Ming–Qing coastal defense system.

A distinguished panel of heritage scholars and professional photographers, together with online public voting, selected the winning entries. The award ceremony welcomed Division Head Prof. Roger Chan, Associate Division Heads Dr Vincent Law and Dr Ivy Man, competition judge Dr Nathan Phua (Lecturer from the Division of Languages and Communication), awardees accompanied by their families and teachers, as well as members of the project team. Beyond celebrating artistic excellence, the event highlighted the vital role of public awareness and community support in safeguarding Lantau’s coastal defense heritage.

The winning photographs are currently on display at the MTR Olympic Station Community Art Gallery, and will tour partner schools at a later date. Members of the public can also view these outstanding works and learn more about the project’s initiatives via its official website and social media platforms:
