The Division of Social Sciences, Humanities and Design of PolyU CPCE has been awarded a grant of HK$1,281,630 from the Lantau Conservation Fund to support an educational initiative focused on introducing and promoting the coastal defense facilities of the Ming and Qing Dynasties on Lantau Island.
During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Lantau was an important military strategic location in China; coastal defense facilities such as Fan Lau Fort, Tung Chung Walled City, Tung Chung Fort and Tung Chung Battery are important media to understand the history and culture of that period of time. Titled "Educational Engagement Project on Coastal Defense Facilities of Ming and Qing Dynasties in Lantau Island", this 24-month project will launch activities and programmes such as field trips with photography and sketching, augmented reality, audio stories and board games to deepen people’s understanding of the location, design, construction and operation of coastal defense facilities. The public could also know more about Lautau’s important role in modern China and its close relationship with China.
