From 19 to 22 July 2026, the Oxford International Model United Nations conference (OxIMUN) China (Shenzhen) was held at Shenzhen University. The event was jointly hosted by the Oxford University United Nations Association and the Oxford University Model United Nations Greater China Committee, with Shenzhen University and the Division of Languages and Communication of PolyU CPCE as co-organisers.
At the opening ceremony, Dr Val Chen, Associate Head of the Division, welcomed nearly 50 delegates from around the world. Participating institutions included Oxford University, Yale University, the University of California, Los Angeles, The University of Hong Kong, and Shenzhen University, underscoring the truly international character of the conference.
Ahead of the formal agenda, a four-day boot camp equipped delegates with essential skills in UN rules of procedure, position paper writing, public speaking and analysis of international issues. Specialised training was also provided for delegates and chairs, complemented by exchange activities that fostered a dynamic and diverse learning environment.
This year’s conference featured four committees: the UN Security Council, the First Committee of the General Assembly, the Third Committee of the General Assembly, and UNESCO. Delegates focused on pressing global issues, including Afghanistan’s humanitarian stability, outer space security governance, societal impacts of generative AI, and education reforms in the AI era.
Throughout the sessions, participants simulated real diplomatic negotiations and exchanged diverse perspectives in animated discussions. The conference not only enhanced youth engagement with international affairs but also laid a solid foundation for sustained dialogue and inter-university collaborations in the future.
