Academic Conduct and Integrity

One of the missions of PolyU / CPCE is to nurture individuals who are dedicated to their academic and personal growth. Therefore, PolyU / CPCE adopts this Code of Conduct in order to:

(a) Ensure the presence of an ethical and honouring PolyU / CPCE community.
(b) Protect the members of the community and its resources from harm.
(c) Provide a guide to appropriate individual and group behaviour.

This Code acts in concordance with the rules, regulations and corresponding disciplinary measures as set out by PolyU / CPCE. For more information, please refer to the Student Handbook.

Academic integrity is central to the missions of CPCE, and students are expected to adhere to high standards of academic integrity in all forms of assessments including assignments and examinations.

 

CPCE views any violations of academic integrity a serious disciplinary offence because it seriously undermines the value of the teaching and learning of the College.

Students should therefore refrain from committing any acts of academic dishonesty, which include but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Cheating
  • Plagiarism
  • Unauthorised Collaboration or Help
  • Fabrication and Falsification
  • Aiding Academic Dishonesty

 

CPCE will take disciplinary actions ranging from downgrade of subject result to expulsion against students who are found to have committed academic dishonest.

Intellectual Property and Materials made and created by students during their studies in CPCE shall be owned by CPCE and shall vest in CPCE upon the making and creation of Intellectual Property and Materials.

 

By reference to the Student Handbook:

 

  • “Intellectual Property” means any discovery, creation, invention, design, get-up, trademark, know-how or any research effort and all rights pertaining thereto whether registrable or not including patents, copyright, trademarks, designs, utility models, or other such rights in any country.
  • “Materials” means the materials created by students including but not limited to documents, designs, drawings, photographs, sketches, plans, notes, memoranda, records and writings, conference presentations, sculptures, journal articles and copies thereof.

CPCE is dedicated to safeguarding valuable intellectual property created by staff members or students and will provide necessary support to protect their intellectual property at its discretion.

If, at the sole opinion and discretion of CPCE, the Intellectual Property is of potential commercial and industrial value, CPCE will also give its support to facilitate the commercialisation of the Intellectual Property and the inventors / students will receive an appropriate share of any proceeds arising from such commercialisation after deducting all the expenditure incurred.

CPCE recognises the significant of intellectual property rights and respects the rights of intellectual property owners. Students shall comply with the Copyright Ordinance of the laws of Hong Kong at all times. Fair usage of copyright materials for research and private study purposes is allowed under the Copyright Ordinance. However, any use of copyright materials for commercial purposes without proper approval or consent from the intellectual property owner is considered an offence under the Copyright Ordinance.

The learning and teaching platforms provided by CPCE are intended solely for the use of CPCE students to support their academic learning. Students must use these platforms and the associated materials strictly for personal study purposes.

If students need to download or save any materials, they should take all necessary precautions to prevent unauthorised access or sharing with third parties.
